STATE REPRESENTATIVE
GEORGE N. PETERSON, JR.

As a graduate of Grafton Memorial High School, George Peterson attended UMass Stockbridge for Park Management and Arborculture prior to serving two years in the U.S. Army.

Upon his return, Representative Peterson found himself destined to be an entrepreneur and began operating a small fish market in Grafton. After ten years, the business found itself netting sales of over $500,000 annually and facing the challenges of a successful business owner, George Peterson became inspired to serve his community in a greater capacity.

In 1984, Representative Peterson campaigned diligently and became a member of the Grafton Planning Board, showing his neighbors his passion and ability to aid his town during a particularly high period of growth. Drawing on his experiences as a small business owner, Representative Peterson then ran for Selectman, where he served for five years before ultimately running for State Representative.

George Peterson was first elected in 1994 and is now serving his 7th term as the 9th Worcester District’s representative to the General Court, where he has served on committees ranging from Natural Resources & Agriculture to the powerful Rules Committee. He now serves as the House Minority Whip.

George Peterson is married to his wife, Diana, with four children. He resides in Grafton.
